Fannie Mae's Help the Homeless Walk

Each year, we work with more than 40 schools, congregations and youth groups to educate the next generation about the issues of poverty in our community and how they can be part of the solution. We educate 17,000 youth through this extraordinary community-wide effor each year. Each presentation includes a mini-walk, with youngsters sporting their own Fannie Mae Help the Homeless T-shirt. For information, or to have a walk scheduled at your school, congregation or youth activity, please contact Walks Coordinator
Cindy Hall. We encourage you to get in touch early to plan a miniwalk and/or to prepare for the big Fannie Mae Help the Homeless Walk that takes place in the Fall. For more information about the community service Fannie Mae provides, visit their website at

Save the Date September 23, 24 or 25! Changing the Conversation about Poverty in Montgomery County
Interfaith Works is hosting a summit to
Change the Conversation about Poverty in Montgomery County! We have had many conversations over the years about poverty and we have all done much good work. But many challenges still face us – both old and new – in addressing this complex issue. We want to ask ourselves now, “How might we think differently – with a new set of eyes - about poverty in our community? With the support of the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation, Interfaith Works is hosting a series of sessions in which diverse groups in our community will be coming together to engage in this discussion. Won't you join us and lend your voice to this important conversation? Contact
Becky or
Adria for more information.
Thanksgiving in February
Where are the hungry in our community of plenty? Right here. Over 25% of the children in our public schools over 32,000 youngsters qualify to receive free and reduced meals. Over 70,000 individuals each year in our County ”half of whom are children qualify to receive food from local food banks.
Every February, Interfaith Works organizes and sponsors Thanksgiving in February. Over 100 restaurants join together to support hunger relief by contributing a percentage of their sales for one day. Funds collected are distributed to local non-profits who provide food and grocery money for hungry neighbors: Manna Food Center, Bethesda Cares, Bethesda HELP, Damascus HELP, Gaithersburg HELP, Germantown HELP, Olney HELP, Rockville HELP, Shepherd's Table, Community Vision, and WUMCO.
Our partner restaurants are proud to be sharing their restaurants as our friends fill their tables with book club meetings, swim team reunions, and family outings dining out for a good cause.
Thanks to the 75 restaurants and thousands of supporters who dined out on February 26th. Join us next year on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. For more information, visit our
Thanksgiving in February Website.
